
Women's Golf Ahead of Two After First Round

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team is 29-over-par after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate at the par 72, 6074-yard Bryan National Golf Club. The Wolfpack is in 16th place of an elite field of 18 teams that includes 15 top 50 teams, including 12 squads ranked in the top 25. Briana Vega shot a six-over-par score to lead the Pack and she is tied for 47th place overall.
Colby Cobb is one stroke behind Vega, while Lorraine Ballerano and Ashlee Dean are just two back. Courtney Pomeranz rounds out the NC State lineup with a nine-over-par score in the first round.
Duke leads the field after the first round with a one-over-par score and Blue Devils' Viranda Nirapathpongporn is tied for the individual lead with Beth Hernes from Purdue at two-under.
The Bryan National Collegiate continues Saturday with the second round and concludes on Sunday with a final 18 holes. Complete results, as well as live scoring, are available at www.golfstat.com.

Meanwhile, outside of Richmond, Va., the NC State JV women's golf team is in sixth place at the Spider Spring Invitational. The 16-team tournament is being played at the par 72, 5898-yard Hunting Hawk Golf Club in Glen Allen, Va., and the Wolfpack is 26-over-par after the first round.
Molly Birmingham carded a four-over-par first round score to lead the Pack and she is tied for 11th place overall. Leslie Stubblefield is one stroke behind Birmingham and is tied for 17th. Nancy Mountcastle shot eight over and is tied for 32nd, while Margaux Hennessey is nine over and tied for 38th. Sarah Davis rounds out the NC State JV lineup and turned in an 86 for the first round.
James Madison leads the tournament after round one and Amelie Farrah from UNC Wilmington is out front with a four-under score of 68.
