Wolfpack Completes Day One At Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field squad completed the first day of competition at the 2004 adidas Raleigh Relays Friday at Derr Track. The Wolfpack posted several strong finishes on Friday, a day which consisted of over 2,000 athletes from 135 schools. Kristin Price led three NC State runners in the top-15 in the 5,000 meters with her win, while the men's team had three top-10 finishers in three separate field events.
James Rowell posted a NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the discus. Rowell took second in that event with a top heave of 175'09". Mitchell Pope also performed well in the throws, he took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 56'02". In the pole vault, Eric Hoverstad cleared 15'07" for an eight place showing.
Also in the 400 meters, Omar Wells had a time of 50.72, while Sajid Reshamwala ran a 51.05. Matt Minnick ran the 100 meters in 11.26. In the 110 hurdles it was Antwan Graves with a time of 15.53 and Kevin Davis with a time of 16.91. Davis also ran in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.87, and Jeff Baird finished in a time of 57.50. In the 5,000 meters, it was Allen Bader in 14:40.68 and Matt Kassouf in 15:05.18.
Senior Kristin Price won the 5,000 meters with a NCAA Regional time of 16:14.85. Lucinda Hull finished 10th in that race with her time of 16:39.44, while Josianne Lauber took 15th (16:50.76). Also running in the 5,000 meters, Erin Swain (17:21.28), Ginger Wheeler (17:30.52), and Abigail Nelkie (18:08.43). Jessica Durrant also ran in the 5,000 meters in the morning session, posting a time of 19:23.09. In the 400 meters, it was Georgia Davis running a 1:00.48 and Laura Strothers posted a time of 1:05.94.
In the long jump, Sheena Dawkins came away with an 11th place showing by recording a top mark of 18'07.25". In the discus, Kelly Smoke finished 12th with a toss of 143'08". Both Joann Jackson and Lailia Thomas cleared 5'04.25" in the high jump.
