Wolfpack Hosts Charlotte on Wednesday

RALEIGH, NC - NC State softball, 10-13, will host the Charlotte 49ers, 9-7, on Wednesday, March 17. The first game will begin at 2 p.m., at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex, field 1. The Wolfpack will be led offensively by freshmen Heather Gelbard and Jennifer Chamberlin. The two lead NC State with 10 RBI on Gelbard's 24 hits and Chamberlin's 17 hits. Chamberlin also has a team-high four home runs. Defensively, NC State will showcase freshmen pitchers Abbie Sims and Shaina Ervin in the circle. Sims has been solid, boasting a 8-4 record with a 1.85 ERA. Ervin is 2-7 and has a 2.43 ERA. For Charlotte, freshman Jessica Moore leads offensively with eight RBI and 17 hits. Freshman pitcher Kristen Bowen owns a 5-4 record in the middle and owns a 3.08 ERA.
NC State is fresh off a Bronze Championship after spending this past weekend at the Winthrop Tournament in Rock Hill, SC. After dropping the first two games to Furman and national powerhouse Ohio State, the Pack won its next three games to finish 3-2 in the tournament. Sims went 3-0 in her appearances.
Charlotte hosted its own invitational earlier this week, but fell to Georgia Southern, 5-2 in the championship game on Sunday. Prior to the recent loss, the 49ers had won four straight, including a 11-0 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.
The Wolfpack will look ahead to a road trip to Atlanta, Ga. for the annual Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech. The tournament begins on Friday, March 19 and will continue through Sunday, March 21. NC State will face Bowling Green in its opening game at 1 p.m.
