LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A pair of freshmen in NC State's lineup shot under par scores in the first round of the in the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship at the par 72, 7,440-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. Garry Hill eagled holes nine and 13 en route to a three under par score of 69 and is tied for tenth overall, while Jerry Richardson birdied five holes to finish one under and is tied for 18th place. After the first 18 holes, the two rookies have the Wolfpack in 11th place out of strong field of 15 teams that are all ranked in the top 60, including 12 in the top 20.
The other three members of NC State's lineup, Fernando Mechereffe, Stephen Lewton and Wesley Horne, all ended up tied for 61st with five over par scores of 77.
Top-ranked Florida is in first place after the first day with an 11-under total and Henry Liaw from Arizona leads overall at seven under par. The second round will be played Saturday and the tournament will conclude on Sunday. Live scoring and complete results are available at www.golfstat.com
