Kaayla Chones Named Kodak/WBCA All-America Finalist

ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company today announced the finalists for the 2004 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team. Senior center Kaayla Chones was named as one of six members representing Region 2 of the eight total. WBCA head coach members from each of the eight WBCA geographical regions determine finalists. Once selected, all finalists are considered for Kodak/WBCA All-America Team honors. For complete region results visit www.wbca.org.
The Pepper Pike, Ohio native is NC State's leading scorer and rebounder with averages of 14.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg. She is ranked in six Atlantic Coast Conference statistics categories. The center was recently honored with a first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference award, as well as being named to the second team All-ACC Tournament squad. In addition she was voted ACC Player of the Week Feb. 8 after a double-double in the upset at No. 12 North Carolina.
"We are really proud to have Kaayla, one of the top six players in the region, on our team and in this program," said NC State head coach Kay Yow. "She has been very consistent on the court in scoring, rebounding and defensively. Kaayla is the anchor for us and we have built the team around her for the last three years. It is great to see her hard work pay off both individually and for our team."
