GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State's Kaayla Chones was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Chones led the Wolfpack to a 62-54 win over No. 12 North Carolina, posting her sixth double-double of the season. The senior center leads the ACC with 27 career double-double performances. The Pepper Pike, Ohio native had a game-high 23 points, as well as a game-high 13 rebounds. Chones was 8-o-12 in the second half and recorded the team's first four baskets coming out of the break. She scored 17 of her 23 points in the second half to overcome a four point halftime deficit. Earlier in the week, Chones paced the Pack, as they erased a 35-26 Wake Forest lead, helping NC State to a 70-66 victory. She led the team with a game-high 18 points, 12 of which came in the second half. The honor was the first of her career.
The All-America candidate leads NC State in scoring and rebounding with averages of 15.2 ppg and 7.7 rpg and is shooting 51.4 percent on the season.
NC State, 13-11 and 5-6 in the ACC, will host Clemson on Thursday at 7 p.m., in Reynolds Coliseum.
