Track in Action at UNC Last Chance

Chapel Hill, N.C. - After a successful weekend at the ACC Indoor Championships last weekend, the NC State track and field team was back in action this past weekend competing in the Carolina Last Chance Meet held at Chapel Hill. The Pack only sent thowers and jumpers, plus individuals in the women's mile, to compete at UNC. Despite the limited numbers, NC State won four events and had 13 finishers finish in the top-three in their events.
NC State dominated the mile, claiming the top four runners. Kristin Price won the mile with an NCAA Provisional time of 4:46.93. Renee Gunning took second in the mile with a time of 4:50.84, while sisters Claudin Hull (4:58.74) and Lucinda Hull (5:01.90) were third and fourth. Kristina Roth also placed eighth in that race (5:12.13).
Kelly Smoke was the weight throw with an NCAA Provisional mark of 62'00.50". Brie Ward was second in that event (41'11.50"). Sheena Dawkins put together a season-best jump of 19'08.25" to win the long jump. Joann Jackson and Laila Thomas each cleared 5'03.75" in the high jump to tie for third. Ward was also fourth in the shot put (37'08.75"). Teresa Reed was sixth in the pole vault clearing 11'07.75".
James Rowell won the weight throw for the men's team with a toss of 62'09.25", while Chris Crawford was second (52'06.75"). A.J. Davis placed second in long jump with a top mark of 22'10". Eric Hoverstad also brought home a second place finish, with his in the high jump (15'01"). Mitchell Pope was second in the shot put with a heave of 53'03.75", while Crawford took sixth (42'02").
