RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's basketball, 16-12 overall and 8-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will host No. 3 Duke on Monday, March 1. The Blue Devils own a 23-3, 14-1 record and will tip-off against the Wolfpack at 7:06 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Net South and can be heard on WKNC 88.1 FM with Patrick Kinas and Que Tucker.
Prior to tipping off, NC State will honor its four seniors, Kaayla Chones, Terah James, Alvine Mendeng and Nanna Rivers with a half court presentation.
NC State will look to extend its home winning streak to five. The Wolfpack had its six-game overall winning streak ended with a 76-61 loss at Georgia Tech on Thursday. NC State has still won eight of the last 10 games played and still strives to tie one the greatest ACC turnarounds in history after beginning the season at 0-5. Senior All-America candidate Kaayla Chones inked her 28th career and seventh double-double of the season after netting 14 points and 11 rebounds in Atlanta. Freshman Marquetta Dickens tabbed her 11th double figures game and eighth in ACC games played. She had 11 points and six boards to go along with four assists. Senior Nanna Rivers has been taking care of the ball as well, posting 34 assists to just nine turnovers in the last seven contests. Overall, NC State is turning some heads in the conference with its comeback swing of the ACC round robin. With No. 3 Duke waiting on the horizon this Monday, NC State will look to pullout an upset as it did back on Feb. 18, 2001. The 69-55 victory in Reynolds Coliseum was the last win over the Blue Devils. A win would also end the six-game losing streak against Duke and two-game losing streak at home. NC State owns the advantage in the overall series, 38-22, which includes an 18-7 edge at home.
Duke clinched the no. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament after defeating Maryland on Feb. 22. The Blue Devils defeated Clemson 102-45 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to six. The 100+ total was the fourth such scoring frenzy for the Duke team this season. Senior Alana Beard, who leads the Blue Devils in scoring average with 20.7 ppg, inked 28 points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes. Three other Duke players are averaging double figures as well, including 12.0 ppg for the squad's leading rebounder (6.5 rpg), senior Iciss Tillis. Sophomore Monique Currie is second with her 12.2 ppg, while sophomore Mistie Bass rounds out the group with 10.2 ppg. Sophomore point guard Lindsey Harding is handing out assists left and right with her 4.96 per game. The four seniors, Beard, Tillis, Vicki Krapohl and Kalita Marsh, have tallied an overall record of 119-13 in the last four years, including a 59-4 record in ACC play.
