RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's basketball, 15-11 and 7-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will host Florida State (13-11, 6-7) on Thursday, Feb. 19. Game time is set for 7 p.m. As always, NC State women's basketball can be heard live on WKNC FM 88.1 with Patrick Kinas and Que Tucker, 10 minutes before tip-off.
NC State is riding a five-game winning streak and has seven of its last eight games, including three at home and four on the road. Senior center Kaayla Chones continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding with averages of 14.9 ppg and 7.5 rpg. She ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring and third in the rebounding. Freshman Marquetta Dickens has been helping the Pack extend the winning streak by posting double figure games the last three outings, including a career-high 21 points at Virginia on Feb. 15. Senior Alvine Mendeng has also performed well for the Pack as she has also posted consecutive double figure games. In addition, she has posted five double-digit scoring outings and two double-figure rebounding games in ACC play. Senior Nanna Rivers has been dishing it out all season and has posted a 28 to 4 assist/turnover ratio in the past five games. The guard is ranked third in the ACC with her 1.75 A/TO ratio. NC State is 10-2 versus Florida State at home and has not lost since Feb. 20, 1994, giving the Wolfpack a nine-game home winning streak. NC State owns the all-time series 19-6. The win at Florida State back on Jan. 19, ended the Pack's 0-5 ACC start.
Florida State picked up its third-straight home win on Monday with a 67-54 victory over Wake Forest. Freshman point guard Shante Williams led the game with 12 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards. Four Seminoles players reached double figures, including a team-high 13 from freshman guard Alicia Gladden. FSU's home winning streak halted its overall losing streak at four, which included a loss to NC State, Virginia and Georgia Tech, all at home. Florida State has the distinction of being the only team to knock off the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils, a win of 80-74 in Tallahassee on Feb. 4. Senior guard/forward Tasheika Allen leads the team with 13.6 ppg, while Williams is next with her 10.7 ppg. The squads leading rebounder is senior center Trinetta Moore, who pulls down 5.5 rpg. Florida State has the lowest three-point percentage in the ACC, knocking down just 28.3 percent from the arc. It hits just 2.79 three-pointers a game. However, the team is shooting a second-best 44.9 percent from the floor overall.
