RALEIGH, N.C. - The college baseball game between NC State and William & Mary scheduled for Tuesday at Doak Field has been postponed until Wednesday. The game will be played at 3 p.m. at Doak Field. Senior lefthander Nate Cretarolo will get the start for the Wolfpack. Junior lefty Sean Sosonko will start for the Tribe.
Polls: In other baseball news, after defeating Campbell on Friday 3-2 in Buies Creek, NC State (1-0) maintained its position in the latest Baseball America, USA Today Sports Weekly and Collegiate Baseball polls. The Wolfpack is 24th in Baseball America, 25th in Sports Weekly and 28th in Collegiate Baseball.
Sterry's Streak: Saturday's suspended game vs. the Camels could affect Vern Sterry's run at the school record for consecutive wins by a pitcher. Sterry currently has won 11 in a row, two shy of the school record of 13 set from 1984-86 by Robert Toth.
Sterry was the pitcher of record in the game, which was suspended in the middle of the seventh inning. Assuming the Wolfpack gets the final six outs without giving up its 5-1 lead, Sterry would be the winning pitcher. Even though the game will not be completed until Campbell returns to the Doak on April 14, the game will officially be a February 14 game, and all records and stats from that game will have officially occurred on February 14. Therefore, the official length of Sterry's winning streak will be in limbo for the next two months.
Moving Day: The fieldhouse at Doak Field is now officially completed. The team moved into the locker room on Saturday for the Campbell game, and head coach Elliott Avent and his staff were moving into their new offices on Monday.
Plans call for the remainder of the ballpark to be finished and fully operational by late March.
