RALEIGH, N.C. - Head coach Lisa Navas and the NC State softball team will begin the inaugural season this Friday when they face Radford (0-2) at 1 p.m. on field four of the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The Pack will then face Louisville (1-3) at 3 p.m. on the same diamond. The softball team competed in the Appalachian Fall Classic and picked up a win over App. State. Prior to that, NC State won all four games of the Elon Classic, with victories over Elon, Averett, Young Harris and Louisburg. Radford picked up two losses at Campbell on Feb. 7, 2-1 and 2-10. Lindsay Woody led the Highlanders with three hits for the two games. Pitcher Jennifer Hosley allowed three hits, two runs and had 10 strikeouts in the 2-1 loss. The Louisville Cardinals dropped its first three games (Ill. State, Minnesota, No. 19 Florida State) before defeating Florida A&M, 7-4 on Feb. 7. Courtney Moore, Sara Bausher and Lacy Wood each have four hits. Kady Garrick is 1-1 after pitching 13 innings. She has a 3.23 ERA.
The Triangle Classic takes place this Friday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Feb. 15. Teams participating are: Campbell, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Fordham, George Mason, James Madison, Kent State, Liberty, Louisville, Marshall, Mercer, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, NC State, Purdue, Radford, Temple and Virginia. Overall play begins on Friday at 11 a.m., with games continuing at 1 and 3 p.m.
