Raleigh, N.C. - GoPack.com is once again checking in on the NC State gymnastics team, now less than two months away from the season opening meet against Rutgers and James Madison. Assistant Coach Todd Henry took the time to give us a team update, highlighting many individual performances for the Pack in preseason workouts.
Well, the season is almost upon us! Here is a summary of each team member and where we stand. It will be interesting to see the kids in more pressure situations as the season progresses.
Our freshmen are really coming into their own. As with any program, you never really know what to expect from the younger ones. Our freshmen class has exceeded all expectations. Heather Zolton has been an absolute joy and surprise in the gym. She looks to contribute in the all-around this year. Leigha Hancock has been the biggest astonishment for me. She is like the "little engine that could." Each and every day she plugs away until she achieves her goals. Laurie Singer and Whitney Harding, both of which were unknown entities coming in, have turned it on as of late. Kelsey Lee is someone that we are looking for to be very competitive in the all around as well. She is extremely dynamic and powerful.
Amanda Jones and Rachel Katz will play a significant part in the all-around. Amanda is really positive and cheerful in the gym no matter what is going on. Rachel is one of the most powerful gymnast that I have ever seen in the college ranks. She is a phenomenal athlete. Crisann Calvo has had a few small injuries that she is working hard to overcome. Her bar work is going to be great when she puts it all together. Kaitlin Kovery is a kid like Laurie and Whitney, who has really come on strong in the last few weeks. If things keep getting better you will see her in several positions to compete. Brooke Outland is such a hard worker in the gym. Her attitude never waivers and she will often work until you have to tell her to stop. Bars are Brooke's event of choice. Katie Ozburn looks to make the line-up on floor and vault. Her dance is very creative to go along with a stellar attitude. Arien Stainback is the cheerleader in the gym. She always has her "spirit fingers" going! Arien will make a push on floor, vault and beam. Suzanne Price is a quiet kid that works a lot like Brooke. We have to tell her to stop! Her bars and vault will develop over the year.
Kylah Bachman is a junior that came to NC State and has improved each and every year. She will compete in the all-around for us and looks to excel with her newly learned double back beam dismount. Beth Faulkner is a gymnast from our home state of North Carolina and will really be a factor on floor for the Wolfpack.
Cori Goldstein is looking to make her last year a memorable one. She has been super for the Pack on floor and beam over the course of her career and is now working hard on 10.0 start on vault to make the line up. Jennifer Grey is a fantastic bar worker for us. She is supportive of her teammates and will be a factor each and every week on bars. Krystal Hairston is one of the hardest workers on the team. She never has a bad day and if she does...we would never know! Krystal is a vault specialist and leader on the team. Andrea Petrocelli is our rock on bars and beam. She is very experienced and always has steady workouts. She knows what she has to get done and gets right to it each day.
Until next time! Coach Todd
