Wolfpack Volleyball to Meet Virginia in ACC Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State volleyball team will be heading to Charlottesville, Virginia later this week to compete in the annual Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. The Wolfpack will be the 11th seed and will face the sixth seeded Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Gym. The last time the two teams met was in Raleigh on October 2, 2004, where despite totaling 14.5 blocks as a team, the Pack fell to the Cavaliers, 3-1.
NC State enters the tournament at 10-20 overall, 0-16 in the conference. Leading the way offensively are senior outside hitter Melanie Rowe, along with junior middle blockers Adeola Kosoko and Stefani Eddins. Rowe has racked up a team-best 321 kills on the season, while Kosoko currently features 314 kills off a .276 hitting percentage. Eddins, meanwhile, is third on the team with 243 kills, but has also played strong on the defensive side of the net with 163 total blocks, first in the ACC.
In addition, freshman libero Andrea Bentley continues to lead the team in digs with 320, and the setter duo of freshman Lauren Markowski and sophomore Melissa Rabe will again look to help anchor the offense, as they head in with 900 and 256 assists respectively.
Virginia (18-10, 8-8) is led by freshman outside hitter Sarah Kirkwood, who has already totaled an impressive 524 kills on the season. Also dangerous offensively are senior middle Alexis Geocaris and sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Osco, who have both notched 354 kills thus far. Freshman libero Melissa Caldwell is the team's leader in digs with 579, while Geocaris has played strong close to the net with 139 total blocks for the Cavaliers.
