Florida State Sweeps NC State Volleyball, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Three players finished with double figures in kills for Florida State as the Seminoles swept the NC State volleyball team, 3-0 (28-30, 20-30, 15-30) at Reynolds Coliseum Friday night. The loss knocks the Wolfpack down to 10-19 overall, 0-15 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while FSU moves to 17-10, 8-7 in conference play.
NC State took the early lead in game one, but then the Seminoles managed to come back to even things out at 21-21. The two teams continued to go back-and-forth until Florida State moved into a 29-28 lead, and would take the contest on the next point. The Noles broke out of the gate in the second game, taking a 5-2 lead and then building it to 17-13. The Pack, however, turned the tide and clawed back to pull within one point at 18-17, only to see FSU go on a 12-3 run to close out the game. Then in the final game of the night, NC State found itself down 10-3 right from the start. Shortly thereafter, the Seminoles had a 20-6 lead and were looking to shut the door. But the Wolfpack sparked another comeback scoring nine more points before the contest was over.
Senior outside hitter Melanie Rowe led the way for NC State with a team-best 10 kills off a .304 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko followed with seven kills, while fellow junior middle blocker Stefani Eddins and freshman outside hitter Emily Bertrand each tallied six kills. Kosoko also picked up five total blocks to go with six digs, while Eddins, sophomore setter Melissa Rabe and senior rightside Sarah Ensminger each added three total blocks. In addition, Rabe helped direct the offense, dishing out 24 assists on the night.
Junior middle blocker Laruen Scott recorded a match-high 14 kills, followed by senior middle blocker Aisha Carr and junior leftside Kristen Rust, who each tallied 13 kills to lead the offensive attack of Florida State. Sophomore setter Jessica Skower anchored the offense with 46 assists, while freshman libero Summer Weissing picked up a match-high 15 digs. Senior middle blocker Amanda Santos also stepped up with five total blocks.
NC State will finish the 2004 regular season at home on Sunday afternoon against Miami. The match will be the last home match for seniors Rowe and Ensminger. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
