NC State running back T.A. McLendon was named the ACC's Offensive Back of the Week after running for a season-high 139 yards and two touchdowns in the Wolfpack's 27-21 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday. McLendon's final carry of the game was a game-winning eight-yard jaunt in the extra period. In earning the award for the second time in his career, the 5-11, 225-pound Albemarle, N.C., junior carried the ball on all four of NC State's offensive snaps in the overtime period.
Through four games, McLendon leads the ACC in rushing (108.7 ypg.) and ranks 18th in the nation.
"He's such a tough kid and if you don't believe that, try to tackle him," said Wolfpack head coach Chuck Amato. "You ask some of those people who had their helmets knocked off last week. He's a punishing, punishing runner. He almost reminds you of Earl Campbell in college."
McLendon certainly did his best Earl Campbell impression against the Deacons, breaking a total of 11 tackles. Two Wake defenders actually lost their helmets trying to bring down the former ACC Rookie of the Year.
