
Mountcastle Ties For 15th At ACC/SEC Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. - Nancy Mountcastle carded a career-best seven-over-par to tie for 15th place at the Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge. The sophomore from Durham, N.C., shot two-over in the final round Sunday to lead the NC State women's golf team on the par 71, 5,937-yard Raven Course at the Sandestin Beach and Golf Resort. The Wolfpack improved 10 strokes from the first round to the second, but shot 19-over in the final round to finish +57 and tied for 11th place in the 16-team field.
Mountcastle led NC State all three days in the 54-hole event, shooting 74-73-73. Ashlee Dean fired a three-over final round, finishing the tournament two strokes behind Mountcastle and tied for 21st place.
The other three Wolfpack golfers all shot seven-over in the final round. Colby Cobb carded seven-over scores all three rounds to finish 21-over while Molly Birmingham and Lorraine Ballerano were unable to shave multiple strokes off their second round scores, as they both had from the first round.
Top-ranked Duke won the tournament with a four-over total and Diana Ramage from Auburn was the individual medalist with a seven-under score. Complete results from the ACC/SEC Challenge are available at www.seminoles.com.
NC State, ranked 24th in the nation by Golfstat and 26th by Golfweek going into the weekend, wraps up the fall season, 4-for-4 on top-11 finishes, including a pair of top 5s. The Wolfpack returns to action Feb. 20-22, 2005 when it returns to Florida for the Papa John's Collegiate at Shula's Golf Club in Miami Lakes.
