TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Junior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko finished with 10 kills off a .368 attack percentage, but it wasn't enough as Florida State swept NC State in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action Sunday afternoon, 3-0 (30-7, 30-23, 30-23). The loss now drops the Wolfpack below .500 on the season, as it is 10-11 overall, 0-8 in conference play, while the Seminoles improve to 12-7, 4-4 in the ACC.
FSU jumped out to an early 7-0 lead to start game one and never looked back. The Pack was able to pull to 13-4, but then the Seminoles went on a huge 17-3 run to close out the contest and take the 1-0 lead in the match. Again Florida State took the lead right out of the gates in the second game, but this time, NC State was there to help contain them, as the match featured some back-and-forth action on both sides. In the end, however, the Seminoles never relinquished the lead and went into the key game three with a 2-0 lead overall. Trailing 16-11 in the final contest of the match, the Pack went on a 5-0 run to tie it at 16-16. FSU would pull away again, but only for a short time, as NC State tied the game once more at 21-21 only to suffer a 9-2 run by the Noles to end the match.
In addition to her offensive play, Kosoko also led the team with three block assists. Meanwhile, junior rightside Amy Cochran and freshman middle hitter Ashley Wallace each tallied five kills for the Pack, and sophomore setter Melissa Rabe dished out 21 assists.
Junior leftside Kristen Rust led the way for Florida State with 10 kills of her own, while senior middle blocker Amanda Santos and sophomore setter Jessica Skower combined for another 17 kills. Senior middle blocker Aisha Carr led the defensive attack for the Noles with four total blocks, and Skower picked up 32 assists on the afternoon.
NC State will now return home to Raleigh for a three-match home stand. It all starts with the final non-conference match of the season against Liberty at 6 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
