RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team broke new ground Wednesday when it entered the top 25 in two national polls. Coming off back-to-back top-five finishes at the Franklin Street Partners Invitational and the Mason Rudolph Championship, the Wolfpack is ranked 23rd in this week's Golfstat rankings and 25th by Golfweek. It marks the first time NC State women's golf has been ranked in the top 25 in the program's five-year history.
After slipping five strokes in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, NC State came out on fire in the final round, improving 16 strokes, tying a school record for lowest score in a round and vaulted from 13th place to a fifth place finish in a very elite field of 18 teams.
The next weekend NC State improved 25 strokes from the first round to the second round of the Franklin Street Partners Invitational, vaulting from ninth place to fifth. Then the Wolfpack shot one stroke better in the final round, finishing tied for fourth place with No. 24 Wake Forest. Shooting three-over-par in the final round, NC State beat top-ranked Duke in that round, firing the second-best score of the day.
