RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's soccer is set to host Virginia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m., at Method Road as the two teams meet for the first team as Atlantic Coast Conference members. The Wolfpack is 7-2-2 and 1-2-0 in ACC play, while the Hokies will enter the contest at 6-3-0 and 2-1-0 in ACC action. NC State is coming off a 3-1 loss to No. 2 North Carolina on Thursday. The Pack has one ACC victory entering its fourth conference matchup of the year. Coming into the game, the NC State crew will be led by seniors Anna Helenius and Erin Griswold. Both have been the top scorers for the team all season. Helenius currently leads the team in points with 18 from her six goals and team-best six assists. Griswold leads the squad with seven goals, just three shy of tying her 2003 total. Helenius has exceeded her junior year total by five. Sophomore Megan Connors made a career-high nine saves against UNC and nearly doubled her season total after the stellar performance. She now has allowed eight goals and made 25 saves to go along with her three shutouts. Sophomore Carol Tognetti, freshmen Allie Wilkerson and Alex Caram and senior Katherine Warman have also netted multiple goals for the Wolfpack. Tognetti has scored four times, Wilkerson and Caram twice and Warman three times. On the year, NC State has outscored its opponents 26-to-9, aiding significantly by its corner kick chances. The Pack has recorded nine goals from the corner.
Virginia Tech fell to North Carolina 6-1 on Sept. 26, a rude awakening to the ACC powerhouse.
