RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's basketball, 10-11 overall and 2-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will host Georgia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 1. The Yellow Jackets enter the meeting with an 11-9 overall record, 2-6 ACC slate. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State ended a two-game winning streak with the 75-56 loss at No. 2 Duke on Friday. The Wolfpack led at the half 36-34 after shooting 53 percent, but poor shooting in the second half allowed Duke to take over and eventually win the game. Senior Kaayla Chones and freshman Sasha Reaves led the Wolfpack in double figures. Chones led the way with 16 points, which was her 18th double figure game this season. Reaves tallied eight of her 10 points in the second half. Chones leads the team overall, averaging 14.7 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Freshman Marquetta Dickens is averaging 7.6 ppg, which is second on the squad and leads all freshmen. Senior Nanna Rivers leads the team in assists with 2.81 apg. After starting the ACC slate 0-5, NC State rallied to win two-straight with victories at Florida State and at home versus Maryland. The Wolfpack has not beaten Georgia Tech since Jan. 6, 2002, which was a home game. NC State has historically dominated the Yellow Jackets at home, losing just five times since 1980. The Pack leads the overall series as well, 36-14.
Georgia Tech recently fell to a hot Wake Forest team on Jan. 29. The Demon Deacons were fresh off an upset over North Carolina just days before and went on to defeat the Yellow Jackets 57-55 in overtime in Atlanta. Senior forward Fallon Stokes leads the squad with 17.0 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Senior Alex Steward leads the team in assists with 5.7 apg, which is an ACC best this season. Sophomore forward Kasha Terry leads the ACC in blocked shots with 2.68 bpg. Georgia Tech started the year off strong with a 10-3, which included an ACC opener victory over Florida State at home. The Jackets then went on a five-game losing skid before defeating the Seminoles again in Tallahassee. GT defeated NC State on its home court last year, 78-60, which was the biggest win in its history over the Wolfpack. The Yellow Jackets are 18-5 in Reynolds Coliseum. First year head coach MaChelle Joseph was the assistant coach with Georgia Tech for two seasons prior to taking the lead role in 2003-04.
The game can be heard live on WNKC 88.1 FM with Patrick Kinas and Que Tucker.
