Track Kicks Off Indoor Season at UNC

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field team started its 2004 indoor season this past weekend by participating in the Carolina Big 12 Classic held at Chapel Hill. The women's team sent over competitors in the 60 meters and the throws, while the men's team had one participant in the throws. Kelly Smoke won the women's weight throw for the women, while Mitchell Pope took top honors in the shot put on the men's side.
Smoke took top honors in the weight throw with her toss of 61'01.50". Smoke also competed in the shot put, and was fourth with a mark of 45'04.25". In the women's 60 meters, it was Felicia Fant in second (7.43), Courtney Patterson in 10th (7.64), Joya Rodgers in 14th (7.71) and Nasheena Quick in 15th (7.90).
On the men's side, Pope brought home top honors in the shot put with a heave of 53'03.50". He was also fifth in the weight throw with a top throw of 50'09.25".
NC State will be in its first full-squad competition next weekend, once again traveling to UNC to compete in the Carolina Classic.
