NC State Falls To Texas Christian In Four Games

The NC State volleyball team fell to Texas Christian, 3-1 Friday night during the second match of the Outback Wolfpack Classic at Reynolds Coliseum. The loss dropped the Wolfpack to 2-3 on the season, while the Horned Frogs moved to 3-1.
After losing game one by the score of 30-26, NC State pulled together and bounced back in the second game to defeat TCU, 30-26 in front of a crowd of 1,023. Outside hitters Julia Reis and Melanie Rowe totaled 14 kills each to lead the Wolfpack's offense. Reis also added 16 digs, while senior setter Crystal Shannon helped direct State with 44 assists and 13 digs of her own.
But the Horned Frogs would prove to be too much for the Wolfpack, as they rallied to take games three and four, 30-21, 30-24. Leading the way for TCU was right side Ellen Rehme, outside hitter Dominika Szabo and middle blocker Emily Allen each finished with double-digits in kills. Rehme had a match-high 20 kills, while Szabo and Allen added 13 and 11 respectively. Setter Tori Barlow also weighed in with 54 assists to go with eight digs defensively.
In the first match of the tournament, Virginia Tech dispatched High Point in three games, 30-22, 30-20 and 30-24. Annie Spicer had 16 kills, four service aces and five digs to pace the Hokies, who improved to 4-1 with the victory. Colette Ramirez came off the bench to notch 10 kills, and setter Melissa Markowski had 43 assists, three kills and seven digs. Lindsey Pickens had 14 kills and 10 digs to pace the Panthers, who dropped to 0-6 with the defeat. Kim Anderson had 10 digs.
All four teams will return to action on Saturday beginning with Virginia Tech facing TCU at 10:00 am. High Point will take on NC State at 12:30 pm, followed by a 4:30 pm match between the Panthers and Horned Frogs and then the Hokies and Wolfpack at 7:00 pm.
