Four Wolfpack Players Win First Match at Uva Fall Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Four NC State men's tennis players picked up wins in the opening round, with freshman Drew Befus picking up a win in the consolation round of singles Flight B. Among the four first round winners, freshman Ryan Johnson garnered his first career collegiate win, defeating Nate Grover of Old Dominion, 6-4, 7-5. Sophomore Will Shaw dropped Dillon Walker of Virginia in two sets, 6-2, 6-4 before falling 7-6, 6-2 against Niklas Oskarsson of ODU in the second round of singles Flight A. Senior Jon Davis and freshman Dennis Myers also won in the opening round.
Davis won 6-3, 6-2 over Adriano Mello of ODU while Myers took his match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Johnson, Shaw, Davis and Myers each lost in the second round however, and dropped their first consolation match as well. Befus won his match, 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation round and will face Nate Grover of ODU on Saturday.
Six Wolfpack players will look for redemption in the double consolation round, as Val Banada, Conor Taylor, RJ Murray, William Noblitt, Matt Simeon, and Tyghe Carstens have matches on Saturday.
In doubles, freshmen Simeon and Noblitt paired up to win 9-8 over David Robinson and Jarred Leibner of Purdue
