
NC State Falls 5-2 to #33 Miami

NC State kicked off it??s fall tennis slate at the Miami Fall Invitational. The invitational features the Hurricanes, Central Florida, and Alabama and runs September 19-21. NC State lost to the Hurricanes last season in spring dual matches, 6-1, and dropped the first match of the Miami Fall Invitational, 5-2, to #33 Miami to start the 2003-04 season. Junior Conor Taylor defeated Colin Purcell in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles in his first collegiate tournament. Freshman Dennis Myers was also impressive, winning in three sets 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 at No. 6.
Taylor and Myers teamed together at No. 3 singles, where they lost 8-2. Despite sophomore Val Banada and junior RJ Murray winning at No. 2 doubles 8-3, NC State could not pull off the double??s point, as Jon Davis and Will Shaw saw defeat at No. 1, 8-2 to Purcell and Tim Krebs.
Josh Cohen, the #99 player in the country defeated Banada 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while RJ Murray dropped his singles match 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Sophomore Will Shaw lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, and senior leader Jon Davis fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.
Central Florida, a 6-1 winner over Alabama, will face the Wolfpack at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
