Iowa Sweeps NC State Volleyball

Madison, Wisc. - The University of Iowa (5-4) volleyball team won its second game in the InnTowner Invitational at the UW Field House Saturday, defeating NC State (5-5) 33-31, 30-28 and 30-21 in the InnTowner Invitational.
For the Wolfpack, junior Melanie Rowe and freshman Julia Reis each posted 14 kills with junior Maya Mapp adding eight kills. Reis was named to the seven-member all-tournament team in a vote of the tournament's head coaches.
The two teams were evenly matched offensively, with Iowa posting 52 kills and hitting .233 percent as a team, while the Wolfpack recorded 48 kills and hit .254 percent. The Hawkeyes' back row defense outdug NC State, popping up 47 compared to Wolfpack's 31 digs. Hawkeye junior Pam Kavadas led all players with 10 digs, while junior Laura Simpson posted nine digs.
Iowa landed eight service aces, with Simpson and Kavadas both recording three, and committing only four service errors as a team. NC State, which committed 14 service errors, posted two service aces.
The Iowa offense was led by freshman Carolyn Giese recording 16 kills. Simpson and sophomore Echaka Agba also contributed to the Hawkeye strike adding 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
