Former NC State golfer Tim Clark, who won two NCAA Regional championships and the 1997 ACC Player of the Year award, has been selected by international team captain Gary Player to represent the international team in The President's Cup. Clark finished third at the PGA Championship on Sunday, a mere three shots off the lead. Clark made heads turn with his play at the major, and was selected to The President's Cup to be held in his native South Africa in November.
"His performance at the PGA Championship was absolutely magnificent," international team captain and golf legend Gary Player remarked after hand-picking Clark for the 2003 President's Cup. "The other players on the team are delighted to have Tim on board."
NC State golf coach Richard Sykes, who recruited and coached Tim Clark as a member of the Wolfpack, is impressed with the name Clark is making for himself.
"Tim has been playing real strong since turning pro in 1998," Sykes said. "He had a great weekend and it's a huge honor to play for The President's Cup. I'm very proud of Tim Clark."
Clark is the 57th-ranked player in the world, and had to take almost a full year off due to injury. He has rebounded strong and his third place finish at the PGA Championship is his best career finish in a major.
