Freshman golfer Stephen Lewton has been selected to represent England in the European Championships August 21-23. The annual prestigious event takes place in Narian, Scotland and will feature players competing individually from each European country.
"Stephen had a solid year for us and he has worked hard on his game this summer," said Richard Sykes, head men's golf coach. "He's really earned the chance to play for England in the event and I think he will do England and NC State proud."
Lewton, from Milton Keynes, England, joined Sykes' men's golf squad for the spring of 2002-03 as a freshman, and quickly provided poise and low scores for the Wolfpack. The tall and rangy Lewton played in all nine spring tournaments, including the ACC Championship and the NCAA Championship. He posted seven rounds under-par and four at even-par, and finished t-13th at the Puerto Rico Classic. Lewton will anchor the no. 2 spot in the lineup for 2003-04, and his play will only continue to bolster an already talented lineup.
