NC State women's basketball will face three of the four 2003 NCAA Final Four teams, seven NCAA participants and two WNIT participants in the upcoming 2003-04 season as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
After hosting the inaugural Women's Jimmy V Classic, NC State will again play host at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C. The Wolfpack will face national runner-up Texas, while Duke takes on Purdue. The non-conference also includes 2003 WNIT runner-up Baylor, 2003 Sweet 16 Georgia of the Southeastern Conference and the 2003 National Champions Connecticut. Pac-10 Oregon and Big 10 Indiana round out the top competition before the squad begins play in the nation's second most difficult conference. NC State women's basketball will also pair up with the men's squad for a doubleheader at the RBC Center to open the season.
The Pack will participate in two tournaments, beginning with the Oregon Classic against Sacramento State and host Oregon. The second tournament will make for challenging slate before taking the holiday break. The San Juan Shootout will feature Eastern Michigan, Baylor and the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. East Carolina, Florida A&M and Appalachian State complete the non-conference docket.
The ACC portion of the schedule kicks off at Maryland on Friday, Jan. 2. Additionally, the 27th annual ACC Tournament set to be held at the Greensboro Coliseum once again, is set for Friday, March 5 through Sat., March 8.
The Wolfpack will have at least nine live broadcast games this season, which are two more than last season. NC State hits the waves on ESPN2 against Texas in the Jimmy V Classic. Also, at least eight ACC games will be on the Regional Sports Network and FOX Sports Net. Televised home games include North Carolina, Maryland, and Duke. The five televised road games are Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia, Duke and Georgia Tech. And, once again the ACC Tournament will be broadcast by RSN.
