Coffield, Davidson Earn Summer League Honors

A pair of NC State baseball players are being honored for outstanding performances for their respective summer league teams this week. Tim Coffield, an outfielder for the Wilmington Sharks was named the Coastal Plain League's Hitter of the Week, while righthander Philip Davidson is the Pitcher of the Week in the Cape Cod League. Both Coffield and Davidson will be juniors for the Wolfpack next season.
Coffield earned the hitter award after batting .500 (8-of-16) in four games on the week. The native of Mathews, N.C. recorded two doubles, three RBIs and five runs scored, helping the Sharks to a 2-2 record on the week. Coffield had his brightest night July 16th at home against Wilson, where he went 2-of-4 at the plate and totaled all three RBIs and two runs scored. Overall, Coffield is batting .225 on the season, with six doubles, two homers and nine RBIs. He is also accountable for 17 runs scored and a .343 slugging percentage.
Pitching for the Brewster Whitecaps, Davidson surrendered just one hit and one walk, while striking out six in a complete game shutout of the Bourne, Braves. For the season, Davidson is 2-3 with a 3.43 ERA in seven starts.
