RALEIGH, N.C. - Sasha Reaves, a 6-1 center from Mullins High School in Mullins, S.C. has signed a financial aid agreement to attend, and in doing so became the sixth member of the 2003-04 recruiting class.
Reaves, a powerful force inside, averaged 22.5 points and 18.4 rebounds per game last season as she led her squad to a Region VII-AA title and a Class AA Lower State Semifinal appearance in 2003. For her efforts she named the South Carolina AA State Player of the Year and was selected to participate in the South Carolina vs. North Carolina All-Star game this spring. In that game, she posted 18 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks on her way to becoming the game's Most Valuable Player.
"We are very excited that Sasha will be joining our team," said head coach Kay Yow. "She gives us much needed depth on the inside and has an excellent touch around the basket with great rebounding ability.
The center finished her career with a Mullins High School record 2,303 points and 1,800 rebounds. She is a three-time all-state and all-area honoree and four-time all-region selection. Reaves started all but one game of her 123 career appearances and led her team to a 110-13 record. She was the Player of the Year runner-up for AA state schools in South Carolina as a junior. In addition, Reaves was named 2003 Miss Hoop Zone by WPTD-TV in Myrtle Beach and was runner-up the year before. The Myrtle Beach Sun Times named her the Toast-of-the-Coast Player of the Year three consecutive times. In the summer of 2002 Reaves was an adidas All-American. And needless to say, she was her Mullins HS team MVP for the past three seasons.
Reaves is the sixth commitment for the Wolfpack, which during the early signing period received National Letters of Intent from four players, namely, LaKeisha Brown (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian), Marquetta Dickens (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro HS), Kamela Gissendanner (Clairton, Pa./Clairton HS) and Ashley Key (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian). The Pack then signed one in the late signing period, Darline Jasmin, a 6-2 forward out of Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, Fla.
