Salem, Va.-It seems just like yesterday that NC State and Georgia Tech were facing each other. It wasn't yesterday, but it was just last weekend that the Wolfpack met the Jackets in a three-game series that concluded the regular season for both teams. On Friday night, the two clubs will go at it again in a winner's bracket game of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament from Memorial Stadium. The game can be heard in the Triangle Area on WKNC 88.1 fm and via the Internet on Gopack.com.
Last Saturday in Atlanta, Vern Sterry set a school record by upping his record to 11-0, shutting down the Yellow Jackets in a 7-2 Wolfpack victory. Although coach Elliott Avent has not yet announced his pitching plans, Sterry could very well be asked to beat Tech again.
Yellow Jackets coach Danny Hall will counter with ace lefty Kyle Bakker (8-1), who despite giving up six runs in five innings, was credited with the win in Georgia Tech's 9-6 triumph over the Pack last Friday night. Tech also took game one of last weekend's series, 8-3.
In their respective ACC Tournament openers on Thursday, The Wolfpack tripped up Virginia, 10-6, while The Jackets outlasted Wake Forest, 9-8.
Since the match-up between NC State and Georgia Tech is the final game of the day, it is uncertain when the first pitch will be thrown. The ACC is allowing 30 minutes between games, meaning the contest could start anywhere between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Stay tuned to Gopack.com for further updates on a possible game time as the day progresses.
