Wolfpack Holds Annual Awards Banquet

RALEIGH, N.C. - Head coach Kay Yow, the entire basketball staff, the players - former and present, family, Wolfpack Club members, faculty members, administration, friends and fans all took part in the 2002-03 women's basketball banquet held at NC State's McKimmon Center on Sunday, April 27.
Those in attendance witnessed a celebration of the past season as well as a preparation for the next. The players were recognized for their past achievements with awards and praise from the staff and their peers. Redshirt-junior Kaayla Chones took home top honors with her team voted Most Valuable Player Award, in addition to her Best Offensive Player honor. In fact, all of the awards given were voted on by the team. Junior Nanna Rivers garnered several honors as she took home awards for the following: Preseason Award, Best Team Supporter for a Starter, Offseason Award and the 110% Effort Award, which she shared with sophomore Liz Bailey.
Also highlighting the event was recognition of the Wolfpack's Equipment Manager, Brenda Keene, who has been with the program for the past 20 seasons. Each member of the coaching staff recalled their favorite memory of Brenda, while Coach Yow presented her with a gold necklace and two round trip tickets. The necklace held a medallion representing Brenda's esteemed contributions and dedication to the Wolfpack Women.

Silver Bowl Academic Award: Kendra Bell
BEM Award: Kendra Bell
Most Valuable Player: Kaayla Chones
Best Offensive Player: Kaayla Chones
Preseason Award: Nanna Rivers
Best Team Supporter for a Starter: Nanna Rivers
Offseason Award: Nanna Rivers
Most Improved: Amelia Labador
Best Defensive Player: Amy Simpson
