Mother Nature Creating Problems For NC State Baseball

RALEIGH, N.C. - Mother Nature can play havoc with a college baseball season. For the NC State baseball team, the combination of bad weather and no home ballpark has created a myriad of scheduling nightmares this season, the latest of which was the cancellation of a fourth game because of bad weather.
Already three games down to the weather, the rain and thunderstorms that moved through the Triangle on Wednesday night dealt the Wolfpack another blow when officials at Five County Stadium in Zebulon were forced to cancel the NC State vs. Marshall game scheduled for Friday, March 7, because of wet field conditions.
In addition, Saturday's game with Marshall, originially scheduled for 1:30, has been moved back 90 minutes to a 3 p.m. start.
Because the game with the Thundering Herd was the first of a three-game series set for this weekend, the NC State and Marshall coaching staffs were working with Carolina Mudcats officials on a makeup date, most likely as a doubleheader on either Saturday or Sunday at Five County Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Wolfpack coaching staff had been trying to add games to make for the previous three that were lost to the rain. Not having a ballpark while Doak Field is being renovated has become a mitigating circumstance, however. Finding another team that needs to make up a game and has a common open date is a big enough problem. Having to find an available ballpark on top of that, especially given the wet weather that has plagued the area this winter, has made adding games especially difficult.
Games could be added to the schedule at any point during the coming days. Fans should check frequently with gopack.com for changes to the baseball schedule. Any changes, additions or further cancellations will be posted on gopack as soon as they become known.
