Gymnastics Places 11 On All-Academic Squad

Raleigh, N.C. - Eleven members of the NC State gymnastics team were named to the EAGL All-Academic team, announced by the league office. A total of 77 scholar-athletes where honored in the eight team league, the second-highest total in the eight-year history of the EAGL. In 1999 and 2000, a record 88 gymnasts were honored.
In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.00 or higher in the two previous semesters.
Amazingly, of the 132 gymnasts who compete on the eight EAGL teams, 58.3 per cent of the them were named to the EAGL All-Academic team.
Of the 77 gymnasts, eight are seniors who were named to the EAGL All-Academic Team for the fourth year in a row. Marlyn Madey (Hockessin, Del.) and Stephanie Southard (Indiatlantic, Fla.) of North Carolina State were honored for the fourth consecutive year.
In addition, four gymnasts had perfect 4.00 G.P.A.'s over the last two semesters.
All 77 gymnasts will be honored at the annual EAGL awards dinner on Friday, March 28 at the annual EAGL Awards Banquet in Durham, N.H. The eighth annual EAGL Championship Meet is set for Saturday, March 29 in the Whittemore Center on the campus of the University of New Hampshire. The meet starts at 6:00 p.m.
