Cary, N.C. - On a cold and rainy afternoon in Cary, the Wolfpack heated up the Cary Tennis Center with a 5-0 drubbing of the Spartans of UNC Greensboro. Led by strong performances from the entire team, including the first win of the season for Chris Mills, the hard working walk-on from Burlington. Mills defeated Eric Johnson of UNC Greensboro in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Val Banada won his eighth match of the season, this time at No. 2 singles, to lead the team.
Freshman Rehman Esmail took down Kshitij Gujarati 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 to win his fourth match of the season. Jon Davis used a powerful service game to jump on Rohan Kronti at No. 4 singles 6-0 in the opening set before taking the match with a 6-4 second set. Will Shaw defeated the 6-8 Pieter Visser at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 for Shaw's fourth win of the spring.
R.J. Murray won his first set at No. 1 singles 7-5 over Julio Moran, before dropping the third set 6-3. The match was later deemed a draw due to dropping temperatures and a slippery court. The doubles point was not played as well because of the inclement weather.
NC State will travel to East Carolina to face the Pirates on March 21 in its next match.
