GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Many of the great names in Atlantic Coast Conference history will be in attendance at the ACC's 50th Anniversary Gala. The Gala, the centerpiece of the Conference's 50th Anniversary Celebration, will be held on Wednesday, March 12, at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center.
The Gala is an ESPY's-style professionally-produced show which will announce the ACC's Top 10 athletes and will also recognize some of the greatest moments in Conference history.
The Gala will feature the introduction of the Top 50 Male and Female athletes in Conference history. Former NC State basketball great Tommy Burelson made the list of top male athletes, and he'll be at the Gala!
The Wolfpack center was a three-time ALL-ACC selection and the winner of two Everatt Case Awards as the ACC Tournament MVP. He teamed with David Thompson to provide a lethal inside-outside combination on NC Satte's 1974 NCAA Championship team. Burleson led the ACC in rebounding in 1972 and 73 and ranks among the Wolfpack's top 10 scorers (1,598 points) and rebounders (1,066 boards). He had 38 points and 13 rebounds in the finals of the 1974 ACC Tournament against Maryland, which is considered by many as the greatest game in the conference's 50 years.
Burleson was the third overall selection in the 1974 NBA draft and played professionally for seven seasons. He is currently a department head/building inspector for Avery County in North Carolina.
