Injury Update
No injuries to report this week. In a related subject, sophomore guard Rachel Stockdale will redshirt this season after she had surgery on her right knee. The surgery is called a lateral release, which is basically a cutting and reattachment of the IT band. Stockdale played just two games for the Pack this season. She finished with 13 points, including a 4-7 performance at the arc. She also tallied four rebounds and two assists. Freshman Jennifer Filipowski had a scope done on her right knee. Not practicing. Senior Amy Simpson is still playing with a bruised right rib cage. Sophomore Liz Bailey is playing with a sprained her left thumb which was sustained in practice, Mondau, Feb. 10.
The Last Time Against Clemson (Jan. 20, 2003)
RALEIGH, N.C. --- NC State women's basketball defeated Clemson, 63-55, Monday, Jan. 20, in Reynolds Coliseum. The win extended the Wolfpack's home winning streak to five and paced NC State to an 8-8 overall record while advancing them to 3-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson falls to 10-6 and 2-3 in the ACC. Junior Alvine Mendeng tallied a career-high 20 points, to lead the Wolfpack effort and was among three Wolfpack players in double-figures. The Tigers' senior Chrissy Floyd was the lone player in double-figures as she chipped in 16 points on 7-21 shooting.
Kaayla Did It, Moody's On the Way
Chones became the 21st NC State woman to reach the 1,000 point milestone when recorded eight points. She did so in complete isolation as she hit the front end of two free throws in the second half. Her total stands at 1,014. She also now has 616 career rebounds after tallying her 600th against UNC. Moody needs just two more points to accomplish the same feat. She also needs 38 rebounds to reach the 500 plateau. NC State has seen eight seasons with two players with at least 1,000 points playing together. There has been just one time with three players having 1,000 pts. and that was with Genia Beasley, Trudi Lacey and Ronnie Laughlin from 1979-80. The last time the Pack had two high scorers was in 1999-00 when Summer Erb and Tynesha Lewis wore red and white.
What Just Happened
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --- NC State women's basketball lost to Virginia, 58-54 on Thursday, Feb. 13. The Wolfpack finished with two in double figures, which included a game-high 16 points from senior Carisse Moody. For Virginia, sophomore Brandi Teamer tallied 15 points. Moody finished 6-14, 4-6 from the line and had four rebounds. Chones finished with 11 points, while senior Amy Simpson and redhsirt-junior Terah James paced the Pack in rebounding with six a piece.
The Last Time Away at Clemson (Jan. 24, 2002)
NC State tallied its third-straight loss with a 62-51 decision to Clemson, 62-51 at Littlejohn Coliseum. Chones posted her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 15 rebounds, leading both teams. She made 10-15 while sitting just two minutes the entire game. Labador came off the bench to add eight points.
Road Woes
The Pack has struggled with playing on the road this season. Not once has the Wolfpack won consecutive road games as the squad has collected a 3-7 road docket, which includes a 1-5 record in ACC games. They did lose three-straight with losses at Georgia Tech, Maryland and recently Virginia.
Last Win, Last Loss
NC State last won at Clemson on Feb. 4, 2001 with a score of 56-50. The last loss was on Jan. 24, 2002, 62-51. The last time NC State swept the Tigers was in 1995 with scores of 72-66 at home and 68-55 on the road. NC State has swept Clemson six times since 1976 in dual games.
A Long and Winding Road
The Pack can't seem to find a roll yet this season. The resulting schedule has produced a somewhat winding trail as NC State winds in and out between wins and losses. First there were two losses, No. 6 UConn and No. 25 UC Santa Barbara. Then there was a victory, Iowa. Then another loss. The month of December resulted in a loss against Loyola Marymount, a win over East Carolina, a loss versus Washington, a win facing Florida, a loss after hosting No. 22 Brigham Young and then back-to-back victories against Elon and at Seton Hall. However the month closed with a 24-pt. loss to Old Dominion. The ACC season brought new hope with a win against Maryland, but was quickly pushed aside after two-straight losses, No. 11 North Carolina and recently at Florida State. The Pack put an end to its three-game win streak with the loss at Georgia Tech. The three wins came against Virginia, Clemson and Wake Forest. NC State then went on a four-game losing streak, falling to Georgia Tech, Duke, Maryland and UNC. But then went on to defeat FSU to end it. The loss at Virginia extended the Pack's losing streak on the road to three-straight currently.
Looking Ahead at Wake Forest (11-12, 2-11 ACC)
Were 10-2 to begin the season, lost nine-straight before 79-75 win at Maryland on Feb. 13 ... recently lost to Duke at home, 83-41 ... Listenbee led all scorers with 17 points on 7-9 shooting ... have just one road win this season, the Maryland win ... have just three road wins in the last 30 games ... have not beaten NC State at home since Feb. 25, 1996 ... two players are scoring in double figures, including JR F Eafton Hill off the bench with 10.8 to lead the squad and SR F Tiffani Listenbee with 10.1 ... she also leads the squad in rebounds with 6.3 pg and is shooting 53 percnt from the floor, third in the ACC ... have forced opponents to 20.4 turnovers per game, while holding their own TOs to just 17.0 pg ... shooting 30.6 percent from the three-point land, with six made per game ... FR G Cotelia Bond-Young leads all ACC freshmen with 3.43 assists per game and is second in points with 9.9 ppg.

Among the Elite at State
Chones joined 11 former Wolfpack women with the prestigious honor of reaching both 1,000 points and 600 rebounds. The most recent achievement was such from Summer Erb (1997-2000). Erb collected 1,221 points and 611 rebounds in three seasons with the Pack. Genia Beasley (1976-80) tops all performers with 2,367 points and 1,245 rebounds.
