Virginia notched seven wins out of the 10 bouts Saturday to move on to a 25-12 victory over NC State in ACC wrestling action. The loss knocked the Wolfpack to a 5-9 overall record, 1-3 in the conference, while the Cavaliers improved to 9-5, 2-0 in the ACC.
The match got underway at heavyweight, where Virginia's Josh Etu defeated LeRoy Harris by the score of 2-1. NC State bounced back in the 125-pound bout with a 9-3 decision win to put the score at 3-3. UVa would then go on to win the next two bouts, jumping out to a 9-3 lead. At 149 pounds, NC State's Jake Giamoni decisioned Paul Bjorlo 6-2.
The Cavaliers took control in the middle where 157-pounder Tim Foley pinned Bryant Reams at 1:24, followed by Will Durkee's 1-1 rideout victory in overtime over Dustin Kawa in the 165 pound weight class. Jon Godwin notched the Wolfpack's last win of the evening for NC State, pinning Scott Mania at 184 pounds.
NC State returns to action on Tuesday at Reynolds Coliseum when it faces fellow ACC rival Duke at 7:30 p.m.
