SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - All fifteen players scored for NC State, as the Wolfpack defeated University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, 94-24 on Sunday, Dec. 21. The 70-point differential was due in part to three players who finished in double figures, including a game and season-high 16 points from freshman Ashley Key. Key finished 7-of-10 from the floor, had six rebounds and four steals. UP-M's Meredith Mas tallied a team-high seven points to lead the Janes. The Pack forced 29 turnovers, which included a season-high 18 steals. The fourth consecutive win improved NC State's record to 7-3 overall.
The Pack held the UP-Mayaguez Janes to just 11 first-half points, while NC State head coach Kay Yow used every player in the lineup which included a three-phase substitution process throughout the game. All 11 of the UP-M points came from the floor, without any free throw attempts. The Pack held the Janes scoreless for a six-minute stretch midway of the half. Freshman Kamela Gissendanner scored all 10 of her points within her nine minutes of playing time in the first. She was 5-of-7 from the floor. Senior Kaayla Chones added seven as NC State concluded the first 20 minutes leading 49-11.
The second half proved to be much of the same. Key stepped in to record four picks as she added 11 to her total of 16 for the game in just eight minutes. Freshman Marquetta Dickens recorded 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half. Freshman Sasha Reaves and Key collected six boards, just shy of the game-high seven from Gissendanner.
The Wolfpack shot 57 percent for the game on 37-of-65 shooting, while UP-Mayaguez managed just 22 percent on 10-of-45 total shots.
Note: R-Sophomore Rachel Stockdale did not play due to illness.
