Softball Signs Five Players for 2004-05

Raleigh, N.C. - NC State softball head coach Lisa Navas has announced the signing of five prep players for the class of 2004-05, Brooke Isley (Burlington, N.C./Southern Alamance HS), Lisa Nentwig (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Sr. HS), Blair Harkey (Cleveland, N.C./West Rowan HS), Shanna Smith (Albemarle, N.C./Albemarle HS), Megan Dalthorp (Beaverton, Ore./Beaverton High School).
"These young ladies provide some depth to our young team," Navas said. "We are very excited about this class. It puts the second step into motion of building this program."
Brooke Isley is a pitcher from Burlington, N.C. who plays with the N.C. Cardinals in the summer and is a standout pitcher for Southern Alamance HS. She compiled a career record of 48-7 and a 0.21 ERA. She struck out 738 batters while walking only 22 and recorded 14 no hitters and four perfect games. Isley was named all-conference in three seasons and was the 2003 Five-County 3-A conference player of the year.
Lisa Nentwig is a strong hitter who provides range at shortstop defensively. Nentwig was the shortstop for Palmetto HS and for the Miami Stingrays, a summer league team. She helped Palmetto to the 5-A state championship, driving in one run and scoring the tying run in a 3-2 win. She was named to the all-tournament team, the all-Dade first team, and the all-state second team in 2003. She was the leadoff batter for four years, and has a career average of .333, lettering in all four years.
Blair Harkey is from Cleveland, N.C. where she was a standout outfielder for West Rowan HS and a member of the Frenzy, a summer league team. Harkey helped lead her team to the 3-A state championship in 2002 and 2003. She used her speed to steal 11 bases and hit .377 as a junior, committing only one error in the field and drawing 11 walks. She was named all-county and all-conference for her play.
Shanna Smith is a corner infielder for Albemarle HS and is a summer league teammate of fellow signee Brooke Isley for the N.C. Cardinals. Smith hit .385 in 2003, with five homeruns, five triples, and 11 doubles while knocking in 40 runs. She was named best offensive player and all-conference for her play on the field.
Megan Dalthorp is a pitcher and outfielder who plays for Beaverton HS in Beaverton, Ore. She is a member of the Oregon Sun Supply, the 16 and under ASA National Champions. A great athlete, Dalthorp compiled a 74-9 career record and a 0.66 ERA, striking out 373 batters in 345 innings pitched. On offense, she notched 50 hits and 16 doubles in her sophomore and junior seasons.
