WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - NC State women's soccer fell to host Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 1, 3-0. The Wolfpack drops to 9-8-1 and 1-6-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Demon Deacons improved to 10-5-3 and 1-4-2 in the ACC. NC State will face No. 1 North Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the ACC Tournament at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

NC State started off strong against the fellow ACC opponent, gathering two shots early on in the first half. But it was Wake Forest that managed to put points up on the board despite a terrific effort by NC State's sophomore goalkeeper Kim Selz. Selz stopped three shots on goal of the four she faced throughout the first half. WFU's lone first half goal was earned after Taylor Toombs took a breakaway down the middle and passed to Katherine Winstead who one touched the ball just to the right of Selz who attempted the stop on a diving save. The Wolfpack defense also held off the Deacons' offensive attack, forcing four corner kicks. Offensively for the Pack, sophomore Lydia McBath tallied one shot on goal from the right side that landed in the arms of Wake Forest's keeper Kenna Healy.

The second half began much like the first with the Pack demanding attention on its end of the field, but again the WFU offense overcame the Wolfpack's defensive surge and scored again at 69:03. NC State quickly took back the momentum however as freshman Mandela Schumacher-Hodge struck immediately off the ensuing midfield kick-off after Wake Forest's goal. Her ball however was stopped short by Healy. Sixteen minutes later the Deacs scored their third goal after Elizabeth Remy collected a tipped ball in the box. The Pack again took advantage of a celebratory Wake Forest defense and tried to score when McBath struck a pass from junior Erin Griswold, but sailed it just wide. Selz finished the match with five saves, while Healy stopped two.

The Pack finished the regular season at 9-8-1 and 1-6-0 in ACC competition and will face No. 1 North Carolina as the eighth seed in the ACC Tournament coming up Nov. 5, 7 and 9, at SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C.
