Dettloff Sets Pool Record Versus Yellow Jackets

ATLANTA - The Wolfpack (2-1, 1-1) men's swimming and diving team turned in a number of solid times and won six events on Saturday, Oct. 25, despite losing its first dual meet of the season to host Georgia Tech (1-0, 1-0), 132-107. Scott Dettloff and Vitor Assuncao were the Pack's stars of the day, both turning in wins in two events. Dettloff set a Georgia Tech Aquatics Center record with a time of 1:51.57 in the 200 Fly, and also won the 50 Free in a time of 21.42. Assuncao turned in solid marks on the 1- and 3-Meter boards with his second-best total performance of the season. With scores of 349.21 and 350.90, respectively, the freshman captured his fifth and sixth wins of the season.
Robert Terrell took his third victory of the young season in the 200 Back in a time of 1:52.80. He also led off the winning 400 Medley Relay squad, which finished in a time of 3:25.53. Brian Pursley, Kevin Devine and Cristain Rojas joined him in the win.
Wolfpack distance swimmers finished third, fourth and fifth in the 1000 Free. Peter Pessagno led Chris Nixon and Jack Deal with a time of 9:34.68. The Pack then finished two and three in the 200 Free with John Hudson turning in a time of 1:44.26, followed by Jorge Gutierrez. Deal finished second in the 100 Free, John Hudson took fourth.
Nixon and Pessagno finished fourth and fifth for the Pack in the 500 Free. Pursley and Rob Yeager took second and third in the 200 Breast. Pursley clocked in with a time of 2:04.73. The Pack team of Hudson, Gutierrez, Deal and Dettloff took second in the 400 Free Relay.
The Pack will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 28, completing three meets in seven days when it hosts the East Carolina Pirates in the Willis Casey Aquatics Center. Action is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
