Action Underway at ITA Regionals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wolfpack opened the first day of play at the Southeast ITA Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C. with losses in a qualifying bracket and the main draw doubles. Jennifer Jassawalla picked up an opening round win in her first qualifier match, but lost in the second. Nandita Chandrasekar and Barbara Orlay were defeated in doubles play.
Jassawalla picked up an early victory over Appalachian State's Salem Kirven in two sets. Jassawalla opened strong and didn't allow her opponent a single game, and only gave up two in the second to win, 6-0, 6-2. Jassawalla fought Duke's Parker Goyer to three sets, winning the second match, 7-5. She eventually fell, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.
Chandrasekar and Orlay lost to ACC foes Blakely Offutt and Elizabeth Proctor of Wake Forest. The pair played a long 8-6 match before taking the loss.
Three women will begin main draw singles play Friday. Orlay, Chandrasekar and Kristin Lam will have an opportunity to advance in the single-elimination tournament. The doubles pair of Virginia Romero and Danielle Stadelmann, and Agustina Arechevaleta and Jassawalla will play in main draw doubles after receiving a first-round bye.
Action continues through Sunday as the individuals advance.
