Three Continue Main Draw Play at Old Point Collegiate Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Three women have a shot at capturing flight titles Sunday, Oct. 19, while two others will have the chance to play for consolation championships in the third and final day of action at the Old Point National ITA Invitational, hosted by Old Dominion. Agustina Arechevaleta, who is undefeated in Flight C1 singles and doubles play on the weekend, will team with Jennifer Jassawalla and challenge for the B1 Doubles crown.
Arechevaleta won twice Friday and once again on Saturday to advance to the semifinal match, which will be played Sunday at 8 a.m. Friday she defeated Selva Gonca of George Washington, 6-1, 6-1, before taking down Beth Principie of Delaware, 6-0, 6-0. Saturday she was victorious against Mary Washington's Emily Brimer, 6-3, 6-1. She will face Alison Adamski of UConn in the semis.
Danielle Stadelmann advanced in main draw play on Saturday with her third win of the tournament. Friday she downed Sophie Rychlik of UNCG, 6-2, 7-5, and went on to defeat Estee Bartell of George Washinton, 6-1, 6-1. Saturday she was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Kim Colwell of Mary Washington. Stadelmann will face Barbara Kerner of ODU in the semifinals at 8 a.m. Sunday.
Taylor Parker solidified her spot in the D2 Championship with two wins Friday and two more on Saturday, all in only two sets each. Parker was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Delaware's Katie Rose, and a winner again in a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Christi Lazar. Saturday She took down Radford's Barbara Wilson, 6-2, 7-5(3), and added another win versus Campbell's Milna Pinto. Parker's opponent will be decided early Sunday morning in the top-half semifinals match.
Two women are alive in consolation play. Carmen Torres defeated S. Batkiewcz, 8-5, to advance to the C2 Consolation Championship. She will square off against Z. Noyles at 10 am. Allison Barry will face J. Sly on Sunday for the D1 Consolation title. She was an 8-1 winner over Z. Noyles Saturday.
In doubles action, Arechevaleta and Jassawalla will face Renata Barreto and Paula Takahashi of Winthrop in Sunday's B1 Doubles Championship. The pair received a bye in the round of 16, then defeated Connecticut's Alsion Adamski and Whiteny Simicik, 9-7, and Estee Bartell and Lindy First of George Washington, 8-3 to advance.
Conaolation and Championship action will continue on Sunday.
