Women's Soccer Hosts Maryland on Senior Day

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's soccer team, now 7-6-1 and 0-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference will host Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Terrapins head into the match with a 7-5-1 overall docket and are 1-3 in conference play. The two teams will meet at midfield for a 1 p.m. kickoff after NC State recognizes its five seniors.
NC State women's soccer will play its final ACC home game Sunday, traveling to No. 11 Florida State on Oct. 24 and No.12 Wake Forest in the final game of the year on Nov. 1. The Pack recently lost to No. 14 Duke, 3-1, on Oct. 15 at SAS Soccer Stadium. Mid-fielder Mandela Schumacher scored the lone goal for the Pack, making her second goal of the year. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Connors had seven saves total throughout the 90-minute game. She has been in the net for the last 10 games totaling 38 saves and 20 goals allowed. Junior forward Erin Griswold leads the team with eight goals and 21 total points, while senior forward Lindsey Underwood follows with six goals and 19 points. Freshman defender Megan Buescher has a team-high of eight assists, which is the second highest in the ACC. As a team, the Pack has outscored its opponents 28-26, and has a shot-on-goal pct. of nearly 50 percent.
The Terrapins are coming off a split performance this past week. Maryland fell to No. 6 Virginia, 1-0, in a torrential downpour on Oct. 14. The win for Virginia extended its undefeated streak to 11 games. The Cavalier's Kelly Hammond scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute with a back kick off a cross from the post. Although allowing the one goal, Maryland goalkeeper Kristen Barnhill made four saves. Maryland's previous game was a different outcome, as they defeated No. 24 Clemson, 2-1, winning their sixth straight at home versus the Tigers. Terrapin Mallory Mahar scored her third goal on a header this season, making that the seventh of her career. Individually, Kimmy Francis leads the team with five goals, fours assists and 14 points. Katie Ludwig is second with four goals. Goalkeeper Kristen Barnhill has been in the net for all of the Terrapins' 13 matches, recording 63 saves and allowing 18 goals for a 1.45 GAA. As a team, the Terrapins have a SOG pct. of nearly 50 percent and lead their opponents on assists 22-13.
