Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team defeated visiting Howard 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at Method Road. For the Wolfpack (6-4, 2-1 ACC), it's their fourth straight shutout, the longest such streak since the beginning of the 1987 season. Sophomore Federico Peria led the way for the Wolfpack with two goals and one assist, while senior Chris Gannon chipped in with one goal and one assist. In the nets, Jorge Gonzalez once again recorded the shutout, today he finished with four saves.
NC State's first goal was set up after Peria got open in the Bison (1-8) penalty box. Peria was then taken down by Howard keeper Jason Williams. Peria's penalty kick at the 26:12 mark proved to be the game-winner. The score would stay at 1-0 through the half.
The Wolfpack would add two goals in the second half. Peria started the second goal by taking a short corner and passing it to freshman Rami Ghanayem. Ghanayem chipped the ball towards the Howard goal, and Gannon was there to score his first goal of the season in the 55th minute. Just under 10 minutes later, Gannon sprung Peria for a breakaway, and Peria calmly netted his second goal of the contest at the 65:17 mark.
NC State will travel to No. 10 Wake Forest this Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
