Men's Tennis In Action At ACC Indoor Championships

The NC State Men's Tennis team, under the direction of first year Wolfpack coach Jon Choboy, competed in the first day of the ACC Indoor Championships on Friday. Play continues on Saturday with Consolation singles play in the morning with two rounds, followed by two more rounds of singles and doubles.
Val Banada, fell 6-2, 6-3 to Jeff Groslimond of FSU. It was Banada's first collegiate match of his career after signing with the Wolfpack in January. R.J. Murray, a sophomore for Clearwater, Fla., dropped his match 6-2, 6-0 to Stephen Nolen of UVA.
Freshman Rehman Esmail was defeated by Chris Gonyer, also of UVA, 6-1, 6-0. Another freshman, Jirou Nakajima, won the first set of his draw against Andrew Simpson of Wake Forest, but ultimately fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Jon Davis lost to Matt Cloer of FSU 6-3, 6-1, while Chris Mills lost to David Bere of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-2.
All seven Wolfpackers will compete in the consolation rounds beginning Saturday.
In doubles play, Jon Davis and Jirou Nakajima fell 8-2 to Brett Ross and Derrick Spice of Wake Forest. Rehman Esmail and Will Shaw teamed up and fell 8-2 to Rylan Rizza and Doug Stewart of UVA.
R.J. Murray and Val Banada dropped their doubles match 8-3 to Mike Murray, R.J.'s brother, and Andrew Simpson of Wake Forest.
