Blacksburg, Va. - Loni Worsley remains in the main draw of competition as the No. 1 seed in the Virginia Tech Fall Invitational. Three NC State women's tennis players made the trip to Blacksburg for the tournament, which will conclude on Sunday.
Worsley received a bye into the second round, where she defeated Petra Klimpova in straight sets of 6-0, 6-2. Worsley moves on to face conference foe Laura James from the University of Virginia. That match is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
Myrna Bawono was victorious in her first match of the day, downing Laura Dickinson from Radford in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0. Bawono fell in the second round to UVa's Kristen James in two sets. She will face Gemma Halim (ETSU) Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
Landis Strader went down the first round of the orange draw Friday morning to Renata Hlavova 6-1, 6-3. Strader moved to the backdraw with the loss, and will again face Hlavova, who lost in the second round.
In doubles play, Bawono and Worsley downed the tandem of Duarte/Glas from Radford and allowed no points to pick up a 8-0 win. They will face Hauerlandova/Klimplova Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in main draw action.
