Wolfpack Women's Soccer Opens ACC Play on Sunday

NC State's women's soccer team (5-3, 0-0) opens conference play against the visiting Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-0, 1-0) on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m., at Method Road Soccer Stadium. NC State has won four of its last five games. Wake Forest brings an undefeated record and a No. 7 ranking to Raleigh.
NC State downed Liberty 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Method Road. Junior Lindsey Underwood netted the game-winning goal in the sixth minute off a pass from senior Lindsey Rosen. Junior Katherine Warman got in on the action in the eleventh minute when she tallied her third goal of the season. Seniors Rachel Durr and Melissa Pressley assisted on the goal. Sophomore Annika Schmidt notched her second goal in two games in the 50th minute. Pressley earned her second assist of the night on the goal. Senior Gretchen Lear recorded her second shutout of the season.
NC State fell to visiting South Carolina, 1-0 on Saturday. Sept. 21, at Method Road. Although they outshot the Gamecocks 10-5, the Wolfpack was unable to find the net Satuday afternoon. Senior Jessica Julin notched the lone goal of the match in the 61st minute for South Carolina.
NC State had an offensive explosion on Tuesday, Sept. 24, thumping the visiting Panthers of High Point, 5-0. Schmidt kicked off the scoring in the fourth minute when she headed in a pass from Underwood. Underwood would notch the second goal in the seventh minute off assists from seniors Erin Bushey and Lauren Bendahan. Schmidt scored her second goal of the match in the eleventh minute. Schmidt was assisted on the goal by Underwood and senior Adrienne Barnes. Senior Jordan Allison tallied her fourth goal of the season in the 30th minute . Seniors Colette Seville and Rachel Durr assisted on the goal. Barnes tallied the final goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute. Underwood earned her third assist of the game on the goal, junior Katherine Warman also assisted. Lear earned her third shutout of the season.
Wake Forest knocked off conference foe Maryland, 3-1 on Friday, Sept. 20. Junior Katherine Winstead netted the first goal in the 42nd minute. Maryland responded in the 45th minute to tie the game and end the half. Winstead tallied her second goal and the game-winner in the 58th minute off an assist from freshman Melanie Schdeider. Schneider would notch the third goal in the 67th minute to seal the victory with help from junior A.B. Robbins.
Wake Forest earned their 100th all-time victory when they defeated visiting UNC Greensboro, 4-2 on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Winstead scored her sixth goal of the season in the fourth minute on assists from sophomore Alli Hunt and junior Alena Thom. UNC Greensboro responded by scoring in the ninth minute and again in the 20th minute to take the lead, 2-1. Winstead notched her seventh goal of the season to tie the game in the 36th minute with help from senior Gabi Lieb. Sophomore Meagan Mullins scored the game-winner in the 51st minute off an assist from senior Joline Charlton. Freshman Sarah Kozey tallied the final goal of the game in the 68th minute with help from Winstead.
This will be the 11th meeting between NC State and Wake Forest. The series is tied 5-5. Wake Forest won the last meeting 1-0 on Sept. 28, 2001 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
