The NC State volleyball team managed to put up a fight Friday night on the road, but fell short, losing its first conference match of the 2002 season to No. 15 North Carolina in three games by the scores of 30-23, 30-18, 30-25.
Sophomore Maya Mapp and freshman Adeola Kosoko led the Wolfpack's offensive attack with each recording nine kills on the night. Mapp added five blocks and fellow middle blocker Sarah Ensminger tallied a match-best 16 digs.
The Tar Heels received a solid effort from senior Holly Strauss, who finished with a match-high 10 kills. Meanwhile, teammates Malaika Underwood and Laura Green both totaled nine kills a piece while combining for 12 digs defensively.
With the loss, NC State drops to 2-16 on the season and 0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. North Carolina moves to 13-1 overall, 1-0 in the ACC.
The Wolfpack will continue conference play on the road with its next meeting at Georgia Tech Tuesday, for a 7 p.m. match.
